The Senate has passed unanimously and sent to the House a bill that would allow physicians who work in an ASC to not do meaningful use and not be penalized.  This is to address the realization that ASCs do not have certified EHRs and the physicians who work there should not be penalized.

The administration has announced a huge program to combat heroin abuse.  They are willing to spend up to $2.5 million to create a partnership in the northeast between law enforcement and public health to get a faster crackdown on heroin laced with fentanyl and other combos.

The FDA has sent a warning to hospitals to stop using some infusion pumps due to cybersecurity risks.  

In the same article it was mentioned that the HHS OCR is considering giving a percentage of any penalty collected by the government in a HIPAA violation to the person affected.  This means many more government penalties for the dumb hospitals putting in EHR without security.        Top
