Humana in Kentucky has ousted 200 physicians due to cost and the state has approved the move since it broke no state laws. Kentucky has an "any willing provider" law requiring insurers to disclose criteria for inclusion into networks and to notify patients if their physician is terminated. The law does not allow the termination of physicians who care for high risk patients or who practice in areas that might generate higher than average claims. It is hoped that all excluded physicians will appeal. Top A study on San Francisco's health mandate on all employers to pay for health insurance states that workers have not lost jobs. The suit for this is now going to the US Supreme Court. The restaurants that were caught in the mandate are the ones leading the charge even though they are not paying. Most small restaurants are adding a surcharge on the bill so the customer pays the insurance tab. Top In a major blunder the VA sent out letters to 1200 vets telling them they had Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) when in fact they did not. This was a typical computer error. Many went to outside physicians and paid up to $3000 to see if they had the disease. The VA should go on TV and told about the error and hopefully paid for all expenses of the vets who went outside the system. Top
