Amazon employees are going to be sent all over the country to get health benefits.  They will pay for travel costs if cancer patients choose to go to City of Hope for their care.  The company believes it can save money and get top care by avoiding unnecessary treatment.    Walmart, Lowe's and McKesson also use similar programs.

A huge article by Kaiser Health News on Medscape debunks the use of 3D mammography and the upsale of women for this procedure.  Apparently the manufacturers of the machines are paying big bucks to physicians and others to hype the procedure called tomosynthesis.  The article states that the USPSTF has not shown this to be more effective than regualr mammograms.          Top

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital got into trouble this past year in their cardiac surgery program.  They have now rehired Dr. James Quintessenza as the chief surgeon and co-director.  Johns Hopkins pushed him out of the hospital when they took over in 2011 and now have enough egg on their face and med mal suits to re-hire him.

Wayne State University is sacking 110 pediatricians.  They are being given a choice to join the University group or lose their job.  The pediatricians are part of University Pediatrics who have joined Central Michigan University.  UP was supposed to pay money to WSU for the salaries of the pediatricians but have not since February.  This could mean the loss of residency programs and the medical school if their are no pediatricians to teach the medical students.

Chicago's Holy Cross Hospital is cutting about half of its beds and has suspended its OB-GYN services.  This non-profit hospital sees many Medicaid patients and has been losing $2 million per month.

It is nice today to be a hospital administrator.  The Chicago Trib reports that Cook County Health System big shot gave themselves a huge raise without the proper oversight.  This is par for the course in the Windy City.  Graft has always worked in the Democratic stronghold.        Top
