UnitedHealth is very powerful, not only as an insurer but also as an employer of ophysicians via its Optum arm.  They are attempting to turn healthcare into a $100Billion business by continuing to purchase physicians.  Now they have 56,000 physicians and 1600 clinics and will add an additional 10,000 employed and at risk physicians this year.          Top

VEP Healthcare, an ER and hospital staffing agency had an unauthorized person access their email accounts.  In response the company is offering a one-year identity theft which includes credit and cyber scans, a $1 million insurance reimbursement policy and fully managed theft recovery services.        Top

Atrium Health is losing more market share.  Carolinas Healthcare system is leaving them for UNC Health.  

In an interesting story Savatore Scumace was hired by Pugliese Ciaccio hospital in Italy.  He was assigned to work in the fire safety department in Catanzaro.  He never went to work but collected a salary for 15 years.  He allegedly threatened his managers to keep quiet about this fraud.  He was recently fired and is now under investigation.

Chicago is now allowing Loretto Hospital to provide Covid vaccines after the CEO and CFO used the vaccines to give to their friends and business partners.  However Loretto is now under investigation for its contracts.  It seems that many lucrative ones went to close friends or associates of the gone former CFO Dr. Anosh Ahmed.  Gee, some corruption in Chicago.

Warrenton, Virginia's Fauquier Health Center for Cancer Care is closing after one year.  Why?  Because hey lost their only hematologist who was on cal 24/7.  They tried but failed to find someone to help him.  Starting in a few months the hospital will be partnering with a large cancer practice providing they can come to terms with them.

This should be interesting.  The Rhode Island AG and Prospect Medical Holdings, the owner of two hospitals in the state are at loggerheads.  Prospect's owners want to sell their piece of the action and the state wants them to put up $150 million in escrow to assure the viability of the hospitals is the sticking point.  Prospect says it will close the hospitals and the AG say they can not do that as he will challenge the closure in the courts.        Top
