Guilty

Broward Health continues to make the news for the wrong reason.  The crooked hospital just had its procurement director plead guilty to accepting bribes from vendors in exchange for awarding them contracts.  

US v Roskovski
Sentenced

Mr. and Mrs. Roskovski of Butler, PA had plead guilty to fraud.  Stephanie Roskovski was sentenced to 51 months in prison and her husband Scott Roskovski got 30 months in prison.   She was the COO of Butler Health and embezzled about $1.3 million.  He was a cop who investigated white crime.

Settlement

Suhyun An, DC owned Campell Medical Group in Houston.  An falsified with knowledge the billing for neurostimulators.  The settlement involved the repayment of $2.6 million and she lost her ability to bill Medicare for 10 years.

US v Dunlap
Guilty

Courtney Dunlap, a licensed counselor in Burlington, Connecticut, plead guilty to Medicaid fraud.  He submitted claims for therapy not performed.

US v LaPaglia
Sentenced

Dr. Michael LaPaglia of Knoxville, Tennessee, area plead guilty to conspiring to distribute prescriptions for narcotics when he had already lost his DEA license.  He used the name of another physicians when writing the scripts.  He was sentenced to 198 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution to the providers who were his victims.

Massachusetts v South Shore Anesthesia Associates
Settlement

The South Shore Hospital group agreed to pay the state $260,000 for not disclosing to patients the information they needed regarding surprise billing.  The group will stop collecting remaining balances for out of network or uninsured patients and along with forgive debts and remove credit reports disparaging the patients.  They will not give back any money collected.

US v Brandenburg
Sentenced

The Grafton, Wisconsin, pharmacist plead guilty months ago to tampering with consumer products.  He was sentenced t the maximum of 10 years.  Remember this is the jackass that removed vials of covid vaccine from the refrigerator to render it useless.         Top

Young v Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital
First Circuit

The employee Karen Young sued the hospital after she was fired for writing a letter to the local newspaper in support of the nurses an physicians of the hospital.  The letter took the hospital administration to task stating the hospital had cancelled many physician contracts and the nurses were very concerned about understaffing.  She was fired immediately after the letter was published.  The National Labor Relations Board ruled for her and blasted the hospital policy and the hospital appealed.  they lost again and now must reinstate Yong along with back pay.  She continues to sue the hospital civilly.

Andrews v Hamilton County Public Hospital
Iowa Supreme Court

Dr. Mark Andrews, a surgeon employed by the hospital, was investigated for his prescribing over 11,000 Vicodin pills for a patient over a four year period.  His employment was terminated and a report was filed with the Iowa Medical Board and the NPDB.  He sued for wrongful termination along with libel and other torts and the lower court said no summary judgment.  The high court reversed and said the reports were opinion not actionable defamation.          Top
