The feds have finally decided to be nice to the thousands of stupid Americans who miss the deadline to sign-up for their own Medicare.  For those who purchased Ocare policies when they were eligible for Medicare have to September 30th to request a waiver of the Medicare penalty that is assessed to people who miss the deadline to sign up for Part B.  They have sent letters to those on the healthcare.gov exchange but not the state exchanges.  It is up to the states who run their exchanges to notify their enrollees.  The flip side is some people want to keep their Ocare plans since the subsidized payment is less than their monthly Medicare payment.  The penalty is either a delay in coverage or a penalty or both.

CMS has found that it overpaid $700 million in meaningful use to providers.  They are now wanting their money back.  This is a warning to those who did not maintain documentation to support their self attestations.

The FDA has issued a warning to B. Braun Medical that its California medical device plant has violations that are continuous due to their lack of oversight.  Their IV bags leak.

California may have a small amount of common sense after all.  The Pols decided they would not put into their budget Medicaid for all illegals.  The money would have come from the tobacco tax which will now go to providers who render care to those on the program.       Top

The Joint Commission has just come up with another sentinel event.  This time it is radiation.  They "suggest" that the type of test be monitored to make sure it is the right one and not one that an US or MRI could be used for.  They "suggest" the hospital or medical director provide all with reference doses.  They continue "suggesting" policies and procedures for saying who is responsible for approving changes to protocols, protective measures for staff and educate all.  They want a system wide audit of all radiation emitting equipment and a protocol for safety and diagnostic testing of all at least annually.  These are among the "suggestions".          Top
