The feds are now limiting Covid shots to those with immunity problems or those over 65.  Pharmaceutical companies will need to show that the shot helps the healthiest people and not just the high risk groups.  This makes the US more in line with our European nations that only base the shot on age, risk and other factors.

The House passed reconciliation bill includes steps to change the ACA.  A great change is for those receiving subsidies to be required to resubmit thier eligibility each year instead of just continuing on the dole.  Also those who would no longer be eligible for the ADA subsides are those legal immigrants granted asylum and those in their five year waiting period o be eligible for Medicaid.

The CDC will no longer recommend Covid shots for healthy children or pregnant women.  It is not believed that hey are at much risk from the disease.  This may mean that they will not be able to have insurance pay for the shots.        Top

Utah is about to get an influx of physicians.  The reason is the new medical malpractice law just passed.  Now a plaintiff can not come after a health care provider for their personal assets or income unless the court finds that they acted willfully, fraudulently or maliciously or they did not have at least $1 million in med mal insurance.  This means no plaintiff can get more than what the insurance company will pay.  There is less incentive to settle for the physician.  The law also prohibits the plaintiff from claiming anything irrelevant to the claim at issue, or to induce settlement or that pertains to the physician's income.  The law goes on to peg pain and suffering damages to inflation.  This is not a bad thing as is fair.  Also if a pre-judgment panel returns a judgment of non-merit on the case the plaintiff will have to pay legal fees.  This panel is no long mandatory.        Top
