The San Francisco Business Times reports that Blue Shield will potentially lose hundreds of thousands of insureds in its battle with Sutter Health in California.  They have come to an impasse in contract negotiations with payments and "antitrust" concerns at the forefront.  Shield reports that Sutter wants arbitration which Sutter states has already been OK'd by the US Supreme Court.  

In response to Express Scripts not covering Gilead's Harvoni, CVS has said it will only use the Gilead drug to patients on its drug benefit plans.  The real question is how can the pharmacy overrule a physician's prescription.  Will this then be done to expensive or even not so expensive chemo drugs or anti cholesterol meds?  Where does it end and is it legal?

In his usual short sighted way, Obama in trying to get his health law bill passed told how wonderful the British Health was.  CNBC recently had a story on the new problems with the HHS.  The population is now going to the ED for minor things as that is their right.  The Service is using so much money that the anticipated 2018 budget surplus is in danger.  When people have no skin in the game they will take over the game.        Top

Metropolitan Detroit has one independent hospital left.  Critterton was being purchased by Ascension and Mercy Hospital System is now Promedica.  That leaves only Doctor's Hospital in Pontiac as the last one.        Top
