Mission Health, an HCA hospital in Western North Carolina, has a problem.  About 130 physicians have signed a letter accusing it of having a problem with the quality of care since HCA started running the hospital.  It seems that the hospital has not yet complied with the terms of its purchase agreement and the state is also considering taking action.  The seller to HCA is also not happy since some of the services that were promised to stay open have closed.  The hospital says it has not breached their agreement.  Some of the current physicians on staff have also penned a letter stating they are giving their patients the best medical care.  As is typical of a hospital that wants to control physicians they recommended a bylaw that may cost the physicians their privileges if they speak out against the hospital.  It was not passed by the staff but only by one vote.  They should have rejected it unanimously.

The University of Colorado hospital in Aurora has admitted after several weeks of pressure that they cut the hair of a 65 year old elder without permission.  This is a legal tort.       Top
