CMS wants to actually help the physician?  A new initiative will help reduce the regulatory burdens on providers to improve care.  Verma has said the EMR reporting quality measures outweighs their utility.  CMS will now gather information and roll back regulations.

The new CMS fee schedule for physicians show a massive increase in rate of payment, all of 0.41%.  Those employed physicians will get paid under the new rate and hospitals will get 40% of OPPS payments for physician services.  Some new codes were added to make the physician's life easier.  

The House passed a bill to repeal IPAB and the Senate will soon follow unless they amend it to another bill that will not pass.

The FDA has issued a warning regarding Silicone.  Silicone injectable for body contouring and enhancement is not approved by the FDA.  Injectable silicone is an oily substance commonly used in lubricants and caulking is is different from the silicone used in encased breast implants.  This has been used mostly in Southern Florida and California.        Top

California has fined Santa Barbara's Cottage Health System $2 million for their failure to have reasonable safeguards of patient information.  They had over 50,000 patients' medical information breached.        Top

Insurers

California's Department of Managed Care has fined Anthem $5 million for their cavalier attitude in failing to resolve consumer grievances in a timely manner.  Prior, Anthem was fined $6 million for the same thing.  The company will contest the fine.          Top
