The AHA is a pretty good lobby.  CMS capitulated and is giving the hospitals a slight increase in 3012 over 2011.  It should be interesting in those hospitals without captive employed staffs since as of now Medicare is planning on reducing physician payments 30% in 2012.  How many physicians either primary or specialty will see Medicare patients who are not emergencies?  There will be less access and therefore sicker patients coming to the hospital.        Top

Licensing

Arizona has removed the license of a physician a psychiatrist  called a predator.  Tucson physician Allen B Aven unanimously had his license revoked due to several bouts of sexual misconduct in Illinois while he practiced there.

The publicity seeking organization led by a publicity seeking physician has attacked the California Medical Board for failing to discipline 710 physicians.  They say these doctors are obvious problems since they were disciplined by hospitals, surgical centers or other organizations in the state.  They have no details in any case but make blanket statements which no one should pay any attention to.  They get information from the hospital generated reports to the NPDB.

Heart Check America in Denver was fined $3.2 million for doing CT scans on patients without physician orders.  They immediately shut down business when the state started to investigate and when the state paid them a visit they were gone.  They also have clinics in Nevada, Illinois, New York, South Carolina, California and Washington, DC.  The owners of the unit were served at their home whose phone numbers were not in service.  The are Sheila Haddad, David Haddad and Lisa Haddad.  The other states are also investigating.        Top
