Optum is laying off 525 people in their Southern California locations.  This includes those who work locally as well as those who work remotely.  They closed urgent care facilities as well as physician offices.  

In 2024 so far 15 health systems have dropped at least one Medicare Advantage plan.  This is due to the prior authorization requirements as well as denial rate and slow payments.  More will occur later this year.

Envision, the fake company who thinks they are a legitimate physician led company, is leaving California.  This occurred just after the American Academy of Emergency Physicians sued them and settled with them.  Envison says the suit has nothing to do with their leaving the state however the timing is suspicious.  Envision does not want any suit against them that might show their allegedly nefarious arrangement to get by the corporate medicine acts.

New Mexico Attorney General is starting an investigation of Memorial Medical Center in L:as Cruces.  The reason is alleged denial of medical care to indigent patients.  

Just as Stanford Healthcare got a 5 star rating they dropped Blue Shield of California from its insurers.  This is a major loss for Blue Shield, not so much for Stanford.

Physicians

Boston Children's Hospital has fired Dr. Christopher Sheerer, a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist fellow,  after he was arrested for possession of and distributing child sexual material.
