Israel physicians have gone on strike to protest the country's new laws regarding their Supreme court.

Covered California will raise the cost of its insurances but will almost no deductible payments for hospitalizations for those at or below the 250% of the federal poverty level.  They got the money by having $82.5 million transferred to them from the fund that people who do not have insurance must pay into.  However, for those above this artificial line premiums will increase next year by 9.6%.  This means those who do not fall into government assisted payments will get hosed as usual.       Top

The workers in the emergency rooms of Ascension St. John Hospiytal in Detroit have agreed to unionize with their boss TeamHealth.  This continues the increased unionization of employed health care workers including physicians.

The opposite is true at Loma Linda where the interns and residents want to form a union and join the UAPD but the university is attempting to stall or stop them.  The university believes that since they are a religious educational institution that the laws shouldn't apply to them.  The judge said they are wrong and they have appealed.  In the meantime they will not bargain with the UAPD.  Let's hope they get some big time fines.  

The VA has dinged the John D. Dingell VA in Detroit.  The Detroit VA screwed up by not revoking the chief of surgery's privileges for multiple instances of substandard care.  They want the local VA to comply with ten areas to get back into compliance.

Southern California Kaiser employees are on strike for more staffing to correct the long patient wait times, mistaken diagnoses and neglect.  

Kudos to CHI Saint Joseph Health Main in Lexington, Kentucky, for doing the right thing and showing a patient death due to a wrong medication was multifunctional and not entirely on a nurse.          Top
