New York City has declared an emergency due to a large outbreak of measles.  They have ordered mandatory vaccinations in the ultra orthodox Jewish areas in four zip codes.  Anyone old than six months that refuses the vaccine can be fined $1000.  The order will be enforced by retrograde tracing of contacts of those affected.  There are no Jewish laws to forbid vaccinations.        Top

California has fined Adventist Health Simi valley $45,315 for allowing the escape of a mental health patient who attacked a police officer and ended up being shot.  Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura was fined $69,930 for leaving a 13 inch ribbon retractor in a patient after a faulty instrument count.

California is fining Kern Behavioral Health $2.3 Million PER MONTH for having not met the state required network adequacy standards.  The state uses a formula to determine how many mental workers the county needs to employ per Medicaid beneficiary.  There are plenty of workers but not enough for a math formula.  The state says the county needs an additional 205 full time providers and the county says it only needs 29.

St. Luke's Baylor Hospital will not appeal their los of Medicare funding for the cardiac transplant program.  They will reapply for funding later this year.        Top
