Peoria, Illinois, OSF purchased Urbana Illinois Heart Of Mary Hospital and immediately ran into problems with the premier physicians in the town, Christie Clinic. The projection as of now is for mid April for the peak of the virus to hit the hospitals. The thought is that there will be a need for just over 64,000 total beds and 17,000 ICU beds at the peak.
Hospitals are now ramping up their processes as to how to determine who lives and who dies. Should they resuscitate virus patients with their dwindling supply of protective equipment. Some hospitals are thinking of over-riding wishes of patients and not do resuscitation but would not have a blanket do-not - resuscitate order on all virus patients. Remember the workers have to don a lot of gear prior to starting the resusitation. Some procedures like using endoscopes or other tubes sent down a throat will send virus particle far and wide. This is the old conundrum of doing the most for the most by sacrificing the few. It is not so different than what I did many years ago as a member of a team that determined who got dialysis when if first came out.

Intermountain Healthcare is cutting the pay of their physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants during the pandemic. The hospitals said this will start in June and be for those who cut their schedule due to being unwilling to be redeployed. Another is hoping to open a drive-thru testing facility using testing kits from China and charging $500 each. This would include a consultation and follow-up. He is currently testing his high wealth patients "if they meet the CDC criteria. Some believe this is unprofessional but others say it is OK to charge high prices and the health care inequities of the country allow it.
